Halfway between Detroit and Chicago is where you would place Kalamazoo native Chance McDermott aka Chancellor sound that emerges the two cities, a distinct personality and flavor, definitely geared towards the dance floor 100% raw with energy and attitude! McDermott’s sound is a unique style of Detroit dark minimal techno with a funky soulful house sound of Chicago. McDermott started recording on Black Nation Records in 1995, In 1997 as Chancellor he recorded his first international 12” record on UK’s Missile Records, same year he recorded on Sativae Recordings in Scotland the track “Dark Clouds” a minimal stomper with its hard bubbling fat bassline draw some attention “Dark Clouds” was licensed several times on mix CD’s, compilations and made the discogs top 100 hard techno tracks list. He’s produced tracks on a variety of labels such as Panel Trax, Etichetta Nera, UKR, Xenology Records to name a few and launched his own imprint ekwedistent rekordings. While remaining deeply rooted to the underground McDermott still produces raw, funky, gritty, melodic style of techno He’s definitely gained respect over the years from the techno community and remains true to his fans.
